Let \(G\) be a simply connected plane domain such that there is a conformal mapping from the unit disc \(U\) onto \(G\) which has a continuous extension to \(\overline U\). Next, let \(\Gamma\) be an arc which divides \(G\) into two simply connected domains, \(g^+\) and \(g^-\), and satisfies some additional hypotheses. The authors provide a method for finding harmonic functions \(\Theta^\pm\) on \(g^\pm\) which belong to \(C(\overline {g^\pm})\cap C^1 (g^\pm \cup \text{int} (\Gamma))\), which vanish on \(\overline {g^\pm} \cap \partial G\), and which satisfy \(\Theta^+ -\Theta^- =H_{(1)}\) and \(\partial \Theta^+/ \partial\nu- \partial \Theta^-/ \partial \nu= H_{(2)}\) on \(\Gamma\). Here \(\partial/ \partial\nu\) denotes the derivative along the normal to \(\Gamma\) directed inside \(g^+\), and the functions \(H_{(j)}\) vanish at the endpoints of \(\Gamma\) and satisfy \(H_{(1)} \in C^{1,\lambda} (\Gamma)\) and \(H_{(2)} \in C^\alpha (\Gamma)\) for some \(\alpha, \lambda>0\).
