    The author considers the functions which are the sums of power series \(\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_n x^n\) on \((-1,1)\) or on \([-1,1]\). He gives a method of approximate calculation of the Fourier-Legendre coefficients of such functions with an estimation of the error. There is also an estimation of \(L^2\)-approximation of the function \(f(x)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_n x^n\) by its Fourier-Legendre sums. Theorem 2. Let \(f(x)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_n x^n\), where the series \(\sum_{i=0}^\infty a_{2i}\) and \(\sum_{i=0}^\infty a_{2i+1}\) converge, and let \(P_n(x)=\sum_{i=0}^n b_i p_i(x)\) be the partial sum of order \(n\) of Fourier-Legendre series of the function \(f(x)\). Then \[ \left( \int_{-1}^1(f(x)-P_n(x))^2 dx \right)^{1 \over 2} \leq \left( {8 \over 2n+3} \right)^{1 \over 2} (\varepsilon(n,0)+\varepsilon(n,1)), \] for \(x\in(-1,1)\) and \[ \begin{multlined} |f(x)-P_n(x)|\leq \\ \leq 2(\varepsilon(n,0)+\varepsilon(n,1))|x|^{n+1} + {2\varepsilon(n,0) \over n+2} + \left( 3-{2\over\sqrt n} \right) \max\{\varepsilon(n,0),\varepsilon(n,1)\} \left( {32\pi\over 1-x^2} \right)^{1\over 2},\end{multlined} \] where \[ \varepsilon(n,t)=\max\Biggl\{ \biggl|\sum_{2i+t>k} a_{2i+t} \biggr|: k \geq n \Biggr\} . \]
