This paper determines completely the discrete spectrum of the minimal representation of \(E_{8,4}\) restricted to \(E_{7,3}\times SU(1, 1)\). The discrete spectrum can be written as \(\oplus_{|k|\geq 2}\theta_k \otimes \pi_k\) where \(\pi_k\) is the holomorphic discrete series of \(SU(1,1) \) and \(\pi_{-k}\) is the contragredient of \(\pi_k\), and \(\theta_k= \sigma_k \oplus \sigma_k'\) is a direct sum of two irreducible unitary representations and \(\theta_{-k}\) is the contragredient of \(\theta_k\). Moreover, \(\sigma_k\) \((k\geq 2)\) is an irreducible unitary highest weight representation (a discrete series for \(k\geq 10)\) and \(\sigma_k'\) is an \(A_q(\lambda)\)-module with nonzero cohomology at bi-degree \((10,1)\) for \(k\geq 4\). Since the minimal representation of \(E_{8,4}\) is automorphic (proved by Wee Teck Gan), the determination of the above discrete spectrum gives a family of non-tempered automorphic representations \(\sigma_k'\).
