This note is concerned with the problem of finding a smooth feedback \(u=\alpha (x)\) which asymptotically stabilizes a nonlinear control system \(\dot x=f(x)+g(x)u\), or its discrete-time counterpart \(x(k+1)=f(x(k))+g(x(k))u(k)\). Under the assumption that the free dynamics \(\dot x=f(x)\) possesses a given Lyapunov function V(x) which guarantees the stability of the system, sufficient conditions involving V and the vector fields f and g are given, which assure the solvability of the asymptotic stabilization.
