Theorem: Sei \(M\subset R\) m eine kompakte differenzierbare Hyperfläche. Dann gibt es eine differenzierbare Funktion f: R \(m\to R\) mit \(M=f^{- 1}(0)\) und grad f(x)\(\neq 0\) für alle \(x\in M\). Der Autor gibt einen einfachen Beweis des Theorems und geht auch auf die Problematik, Geschichte und verwandte Sätze ein. Daraus folgen Orientierbarkeit und das Jordan-Brouwer-Theorem.
