This paper contains characterizations of complex \(L_ 1\)-predual spaces in terms of separation theorems for semi-continuous convex or concave functions on the dual unit ball. The results are extensions of results obtained by \textit{Ka-Sing Lau} [Math. Scand. 33, 323-337 (1974; Zbl 0309.46024)], \textit{G. H. Olsen} [Math. Scand. 38, 97-105 (1976; Zbl 0354.46013)] and \textit{A. K. Roy} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 20, 529- 540 (1979; Zbl 0413.46011)].
