The paper deals with an application of the methodology for designing the optimum weight structure and robust control system using \(H_2-H_\infty\) theory for a realistic aircraft structure. The control can tolerate both structural parametric uncertainties and unmodelled dynamics. The concept of using the constraints on the separation of singular values between the closed-loop and open-loop systems at the damped structural frequencies is demonstrated. Satisfying these constraints has the advantage of selecting proper values for the control design parameters to design an optimum robust control to suppress vibrations. The method is applied to three structures idealized with membrane elements, shear panels and bar elements with embedded actuators and sensors simulating an active flexible aicraft wing.
