Fareys series and Pick's area theorem (Q1903426)

After comparing texts in well-known books on Farey series and Pick's area theorem with the original sources the authors come to the conclusion that ``the information readily available to nonprofessional historians is unreliable'' and that ``the errors achieve more or less permanent status''. The hope is, however, that ``some historians will devise an electronic historical retrieval system''.
