The article under review generalizes work by Chamseddine, Connes and van Suijlekom, who realized the von Neumann entropy of the Gibbs state naturally defined by a fermionic second quantization, as a spectral action. The current paper, extends this to bosonic second quantization with a chemical potential. Moreover, it is shown that this action is defined by certain Bessel functions. In the fermionic case, the results of Chamseddine, Connes and van Suijlekom are recovered by showing that when the chemical potential approaches zero, the spectral action coefficients can be expressed using the Riemann zeta function.
