The aim of this paper is to prove: Theorem. Let \(M_ 0\) be a compact smooth manifold with boundary \(N\) and interior \(\Omega\) and set \(M=M_ 0\cup_ N(N\times[0,\infty))\). Let \([\sigma]\) be an element in \(K^ 0(TM,TM\setminus \Omega)\) and \([\bar\varphi]\) be a cohomology class of \(\bar H^{2q}(M_ 0)\). Then, an expression \[ \text{Ind}_{[\bar\varphi]}([\sigma])=\{q!/(2\pi i)^ q(2q)!\}(ch([\sigma])\varphi({\mathcal T}(M)[\bar\varphi]))[TM] \] holds, where \({\mathcal T}(M)=\text{Todd}(TM\otimes{\mathfrak C})\) is the index class of \(M\) and \(\phi\) is the Thom isomorphism. In order to obtain this theorem, the author gives the global calculus of pseudo-differential operators on manifolds with cylindrical ends and then, he employs the asymptotic symbolic calculus of the global pseudo- differential operators based on a scaling similar to that of Getzler.
