The author develops the mathematical analysis of the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) in the context of potential problems in regions which are doubly-connected. The main results are the proof of the unique existence and convergence for the C-MFS (conventional) and the I-MFS (invariant) as well as the corresponding error estimates for different types of regions. First, the mathematical background for the analysis is presented, where conventional and invariant schemes are considered. After that, the method is examined for the first special case, namely in annular regions, where the unique existence, convergence and error bounds are proved. In the following section, the focus lies on the MFS in doubly-connected regions and the same properties as before are analysed. After that, numerical experiments for annular regions as well as for a doubly-connected region surrounded by polynomial curves are presented. The paper is closed with concluding remarks.
