The author considers a model of structured populations with individuals having different characteristics. To overcome the shortcomings of the Sinko-Streifer model of homogeneous populations the model proposed is composed of subpopulation models with different parameters. The subpopulation dynamics is modeled with a semigroup of linear operators in a Banach space. By introducing a vector-valued measure the subpopulations are combined with an abstract integral to obtain the density of the population. The task of estimation of the vector measure requires an approximation theory for the semigroup and the vector integral. The author presents a number of convergence theorems which justify the solutions to the inverse problem. The incorporation of time dependent measures enables to check data for a wide range of changes in individual parameters.
