The articles of this volume will be reviewed individually under the abbreviation ''Les ondelettes en 1989, Sémin. Anal. Harmonique, Orsay/Fr. 1989, Lect. Notes Math. 1438 (1990)''. This valuable volume presents, in French, nine expository papers concerning the burgeoning theory of wavelets and its applications to filtering, image processing, etc. Much to my surprise, three of the papers are about applications to fractal theory.
