Group classification and exact solutions of nonlinear wave equations (Q2505496)

The authors perform a complete group classification of quasi-linear wave equations of the form \(u_{tt}=u_{xx}+F(t,x,u,u_x)\). The large number of arising cases leads to the length of the article, although many computational details are skipped. The authors found in particular four genuinely nonlinear equations with a five-dimensional symmetry group. For these, exact solutions are derived via symmetry reductions.
