The authors study the uniform approximation of uniformly continuous functions by Lipschitz functions. First they consider the heat flow of a function \(f\) on \({\mathbb C}^n\): \[ \tilde f^{(t)}(w)={1\over (4\pi t)^n}\int _{{\mathbb C}^n} f(w-z)e^{-{|z|^2\over 4t}}dv(z), \] where \(dv\) is the Lebesgue measure. It is proven that, if \(f\) is uniformly continuous, then, for \(t>0\), \(\tilde f^{(t)}\) is a Lipschitz function and converges uniformly to \(f\) on \({\mathbb C}^n\) as \(t\to 0\). Second they consider functions on a bounded symmetric domain \(\Omega \). The Berezin transform of a function \(f\) on \(\Omega \) is defined, for \(\lambda >p\), by \[ B_{\lambda } (f)(w)=c_{\lambda } \int _{\Omega }f(z)|k_w^{\lambda }(z)|^2h(z,z)^{\lambda -p}dv(z), \] where \(p\) is the genus of \(\Omega \), \(h(z,w)\) is the Jordan triple determinant, and \(k_w^{\lambda }\) is the normalized reproducing kernel of the weighted Bergman space \(L_{\text{an}}^2(\Omega ,dv)\). It is proven that, for \(\lambda >p\), \(B_{\lambda }(f)\) is a Lipschitz function and converges uniformly to \(f\) on \(\Omega \) as \(\lambda \to \infty \). Furthermore explicit bounds are given for the Lipschitz constants.
