The topology of a central hyperplane arrangement in \(\mathbb{C}^3\) is studied. The machinery is perverse sheaves and vanishing cycles to obtain restrictions on the characteristic polynomial of the monodromy of the Milnor fibre. In this way, new bounds on the Betti numbers of the Milnor fibre are obtained.
