This paper has two main goals. Alternative proofs of theorems, mostly due to C. Piñeiro, concerning when certain sequences in a Banach space \(X\) are contained in the range of a vector measure are given. Crucial in these alternative proofs is a characterization of isomorphic copies of Hilbert spaces due to Johnson, König, Maurey and Retherford. Next, the author proves a somewhat similar result to the results of Piñeiro, namely that in the presence of the Gordon-Lewis property, the finite-dimensional spaces are the only ones that obey the following law: Any set in \(X\) contained in the range of a vector measure is already contained in the range of an \(X^{\ast\ast}\)-valued vector measure of bounded variation. On the way to this result, the author discusses when \(p\)-unconditionally Cauchy sequences in the Banach space \(X\) are included in the range of a vector measure of bounded variation with values in some superspace of \(X\), and indeed obtains descriptions of such Banach spaces. It turns out that a well-known result of Anantharaman and Diestel, saying that weakly 2-summable sequences in \(X\) sit inside the range of a vector measure into \(X\), is generalized.
