Let \(P_n\) be the set of all algebraic polynomials of degree \(\leq n\). Let \(Y_r\) be a grid of nodes \(y_0:=-1<y_1<\dots<y_r<y_{r+1}:=1\). Let \(\Delta^1(Y_r)\) denote the set of all comonotone functions \(f\), i.e., \(f\mid [y_{r-2k},y_{r+1-2k}]\) is nondecreasing and \(f\mid [y_{r-1-2k},y_{r-2k}]\) is nonincreasing. For \(f\in L_p[-1,1]\cap\Delta^1(Y_r)\) with \(0<p\leq\infty\), where \(L_\infty[-1,1]:=C[-1,1]\), let \[ E^{(1)}_n (f,Y_r)_p:=\inf \left\{\| f-p_n\|_p; p_n\in P_n \cap\Delta^1(Y_r)\right\} \] be the degree of comonotone polynomial approximation of \(f\). Using the second order Ditzian-Totik modulus of smoothness, the authors prove a Jackson-type theorem for \(E^{(1)}_n(f,Y_r)_p\). Note that the case \(p=\infty\) was earlier considered by the second author.
