Let \(k\) be a field of characteristic \(p>0\) and \(G\) be a finite \(p\)-group. The \(kG\) module \(M\) is called endotrivial if \(\text{Hom}_k(M,M)\simeq k\oplus P\), where \(P\) is a projective \(kG\)-module. The author proves that a \(kG\)-module \(M\) is endotrivial if and only if the stable endomorphism ring of \(M\) has dimension one over \(k\).
