    This article is concerned with substitution tilings (hierarchical nonperiodic tilings of Euclidean space, obtained by inflation) in a topological setting where the substitution rule induces a dynamical system. The main result: The conjugacy class of certain subgroups of \(SO(n)\) (closely related to the orientations in which the copies of a prototile appear in a tiling) is a dynamic invariant (with respect to equivalence of dynamical systems) of the tiling family, and thus can be used in the classification of these tilings. Moreover, the authors discuss the details of this invariant for several examples (two- and threedimensional tilings of the pinwheel type).
