The basic equations of thermomechanical welding in Galerkin approximation are solved by means of finite element method. The resulting linear equations include linear and nonlinear stiffness matrix coefficients, unknown displacements, and nodal forces. The coefficients are defined by integrals of tangent modulus matrix and linear strain matrix. The nonlinear parts have stiffnesses defined by the second Piola-Kirchoff stress and by the nonlinear strain matrix. The authors perform time integration with backward Euler scheme and Newton-Raphson iteration. For \(v-p\) models proposed by Anand, Sestrin and Robinson, the authors calculate the consistent tangent moduli. The results are illustrated through benchmark problems on moving electric arc, latent heat of melting, solidification of welding bath, and on the generation of residual stresses. Some conclusions are drawn for numerical data and diagrams.
