In a previous paper \textit{R. A. Gonzales, J. Eisert, I. Koltracht, M. Neumann} and \textit{G. Rawitscher} [J. Comput. Phys. 134, No.~1, 134-149 (1997; Zbl 0879.65055)]) presented a new integral equation method for the solution of the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation. This method utilised the improved numerical stability of solving a system of integral equations (as opposed to differential equations). The ``expensive'' nature of such methods is overcome by considering non-sparse matrices of small dimension. In the present paper, the authors extend this method to systems of coupled Schrödinger equations with both positive and negative channel energies. A number of difficulties arise in this extension. Each is treated separately and in some detail. The integral equation method is contrasted with results obtained via other numerical techniques.
