Consider the convolution operators \(T^a_t\) and the associated maximal operators \(T^a_*\) on \(L^p({\mathbb{R}}^n)\), given by \((T^a_tf)^{\widehat{\phantom{x}}}(\xi)=\widehat{f}(\xi)e^{it|\xi|^a}\), and \(T^a_*f=\sup\{|T^a_tf|:t\in I\}\), respectively; here \(a\geq 1\) and \(I=[0,1]\). This paper contains several results about \(T^a_t\) and \(T^a_*\), phrased in terms of the (nonhomogeneous) Besov spaces \(B^\alpha_{p,q}\). As usual, the results are better when \(a>1\) (e.g., for the Schrödinger equation, when \(a=2\)) than when \(a=1\) (for the wave equation). The first result estimates the Besov norm of the function \((x,t)\mapsto T^a_tf(x)\) on \({\mathbb{R}}^n\times I\), and the others are for \(L^p\) or \(L^2\) norms of \(T^a_*f\). Use of the Besov space \(B^\alpha_{2,1}\) allows the authors to slightly sharpen previous results in the area.
