We define a parabolic Higgs bundle on a compact Riemann surface appropriately so that we can construct the moduli space of stable parabolic Higgs bundles as a hyperkähler quotient by the gauge group. To do this, we prove the existence of a Hermitian-Einstein metric on a stable parabolic Higgs bundle by solving a PDE.
