Three modifications of incomplete block factorization for block tridiagonal matrices are considered. They are based on the block Gaussian elimination. First incomplete factorization is done, and then the solution is refined by some iterative procedure. In many cases the methods discussed are more efficient with respect to storage and time requirements than the usual block factorization.
