[In J. Algebra 38, 523-524 (1976; Zbl 0344.20001)] \textit{J. G. Thompson} initiated to study all pairs \((G,\Lambda)\), where \(G\) is a finite group, \(\Lambda\) a torsion free \(\mathbb{Z} G\)-module of finite rank whose prime reductions \(\Lambda/p \Lambda\) are irreducible for every rational prime \(p\). All currently known examples of such pairs are connected with the Weyl group of type \(E_ 8\), Conway's sporadic simple group \(\text{Co}_ 1\), Thompson's sporadic simple group \(F_ 3\), and basic spin representations of \(2\mathbb{S}_ n\), \(2\mathbb{A}_ n\) [\textit{R. Gow}, Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 21, 257-262 (1989; Zbl 0677.20010)]. A generalization of the condition of Thompson -- the notion of global irreducibility -- has been introduced by \textit{B. H. Gross} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 3, 929-960 (1990; Zbl 0745.11035)], in order to explain some new interesting lattices coming from elliptic curves and constructed by N. Elkies and T. Shioda. The aim of the paper is to determine all globally irreducible representations coming from basic spin representations of \(2\mathbb{S}_ n\) and \(2\mathbb{A}_ n\). A crucial role in the arguments is played by the results of \textit{D. B. Whales}, J. Algebra 61, 37-57 (1979; Zbl 0433.20010)]. The relationship between arising integral lattices and Barnes-Wall lattices has also been investigated.
