The main result of the paper is given by the inequality \[ \Biggl|{\partial^2f\over\partial x\partial y}\Biggr|\leq 3^{2/3}2^{1/2}|f|^{1/6} \Biggl|{\partial^3f\over\partial x^3}\Biggr|^{1/3} \Biggl|{\partial^2f\over\partial y^2}\Biggr|^{1/2}, \] which holds for all \(f:\mathbb{R}^2\to\mathbb{R}\) that are continuous and bounded on \(\mathbb{R}^2\) and whose derivatives \({\partial^2f\over\partial x^2}\) and \({\partial f\over\partial y}\) are locally absolutely continuous with respect to \(x\) and \(y\) for almost all \(y\) and \(x\), respectively. Here, \(\left|{\partial^3f\over\partial x^3}\right|\) and \(\left|{\partial^2f\over\partial y^2}\right|\) are essential sup-norms on \(\mathbb{R}^2\) and \(\left|{\partial^2f\over\partial x\partial y}\right|\) and \(|f|\) are sup-norms on \(\mathbb{R}^2\). The inequality is proven to be exact in the sense that there exists a function \(f\) as above for which equality holds. Moreover, a similar inequality is stated where the sup-norms are replaced by \(L_1\)-norms.
