Homology in Abelian lattice models (Q1373291)

The \({\mathbb Z}_p\) lattice gauge theory partition function with a Boltzmann weight is expressed first as a sum over the two cycles of a complex and then as a sum over \(H_2(K;{\mathbb Z}_p)\oplus C_3(K;{\mathbb Z}_p)\). The analogous formula for the expectation value of a product of Wilson line correlators shows that the expectation is zero if the lines represent a non-trivial element of \(H_1\).
