The authors deal with the existence of infinitely many positive solutions of the Dirichlet problem for the elliptic equation \(\Delta u+V(x) u^p=0\) (on \(D\setminus \{0\})\) and the global solvability of the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem for the parabolic equation \(\Delta u+V(x) u^p-u_t=0\) (on \((D \setminus \{0\}) \times (0,\infty))\), where the function \(V(x)\) may be singular in \(x=0\). For the proofs, the problems are converted into integral equations in order to apply Schauder's fixed point theorem. This is achieved by means of delicate a priori estimates.
