    If \(i=1\) or \(i=3\), let \(d_i= \sum_{\substack{ d\mid n\\ d\equiv i\pmod 4}} 1\). Let \(\delta(n)= d_1(n)- d_3(n)\). By skillful manipulation of known identities, the author derives apparently new formulas for \(\sigma(4m+1)\) and \(\sigma(4m+3)\) in terms of \(\delta(n)\).
