The author deals with a more rational approach by incorporating the Giesekus constitutive equation into the slender-body theory. The choice of the Giesekus model is based on the following two considerations: a) first, it is moleculary-based rather than phenomenological; it models packed polymer chains experiencing anisotropic Brownian and viscous forces; b) second and more importantly, the Giesekus model strikes a good balance between simplicity and satisfactory prediction for elongational rheology. As in many previous papers, this paper is limited to the steady thinning of a straight electrified jet, relevant only to electrospinning.
