This survey article provides a readable introduction to the non-expert and serves as a welcome summary for the experts in the field. Artin groups are introduced as generalizations of braid groups. Essential properties of right-angled Artin groups and the cube complexes associated to them are reviewed before some areas of current research on automorphisms of right-angled Artin groups are laid out. Key examples are provided and key theorems are stated (without proof), applications are touched upon. History and development of the subject are supported by a bibliography comprising 81 entries.
