Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be metric spaces. The pair \((X,Y)\) is said to have the Lipschitz extension property if there is a constant \(C>0\) such that every \(L\)-Lipschitz map \(f:A\to Y\) from an arbitrary subset \(A\subset X\) can be extended to a \(CL\)-Lipschitz map \(F:X\to Y.\) The main result of the paper says that for \(k>n,\) the pairs \((\mathbb R^k,H^n)\) and \((H^k,H^n),\) where \(H^n\) denotes the \(n\)-th Heisenberg group, do not have the Lipschitz extension property. The authors conjecture that the Lipschitz extension property holds for \((\mathbb R^k,\mathbb H^n)\) whenever \(k\leq n.\)
