For a Noetherian local ring \((R,\mathfrak{m})\) of dimension \(d>0\) and a proper ideal \(I\) of \(R\) the \(j\)-multiplicity of \(I\) is defined as \(j(I)=\lim_{n\to \infty}\frac{(d-1)!}{n^{d-1}}\text{length}_RH^0_{\mathfrak{m}}(I^n/I^{n+1})\), where \(H^0_{\mathfrak{m}}(-)\) denotes the 0th local cohomology functor. The authors explore the computability of this invariant of \(I\), giving another proof for the length formula and the additivity formula. The paper ends with a section with interesting examples.
