This paper presents complete proofs of Theorems 1 and 2 announced in [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I, Math. 326, 1205--1208 (1998; Zbl 0927.58017), see the preceding review]. To prove Theorem 1, the author considers a sub-critical variational problem whose minimizers change sign provided that they satisfy an integral constraint. By letting the sub-critical exponent to \(N,\) he shows that the minimizers converge towards a non-zero nodal solution. Theorem 2 is then a consequence of the first theorem, upon using the implicit function theorem and the bifurcation theory, starting from the case \(\lambda=0.\) He also gives extensions to the Neumann problem, in the case that \(M\) has a boundary, and applications to the nonlinear Schrödinger and wave equations in boundaryless manifolds.
