The authors discuss the problem of the cardinality of maximal spreads in \(\text{PG}(3,q)\), \(q\) square or cube power. For certain values of the cardinality they also determine the structure of the set of points not covered by the spread. Similar results are derived for \(t\)-spreads in \(\text{PG}(2t+1,q)\), \(q\) square or non-square cube power.
