The Ikeda lift, due to \textit{T. Ikeda} [Ann. Math. (2) 154, 641-681 (2001; Zbl 0998.11023)], associates Siegel cusp forms \(F\) of different weight and degree to a given Hecke eigenform \(f\) for the modular group. For the form \(F\), one defines ``standard'' and ``spinor'' \(L\)-functions. Ikeda showed a product formula for the standard \(L\)-function, involving Riemann's zeta-function and shifts of the \(L\)-function of \(f\). The author establishes an analogous product formula for the spinor \(L\)-function; the factors are now symmetric power \(L\)-functions for \(f\). Under the assumption of a conjecture of Serre and Langlands on symmetric power \(L\)-functions (or unconditionally in some cases where the conjecture is known to hold), this implies the analytic continuation and a functional equation for the spinor \(L\)-function.
