The author estimates the codimension of the complement of the set of factorial hypersurfaces of degree \(d\geq 4\) in \(\mathbb{P}^N\) for \(N\geq 7\). In order to achieve the bound, first, the codimension of the set of hypersurfaces with a singular set of prescribed dimension is estimated. Then a theorem by Grothendieck is used that claims that a variety with hypersurface singularities is factorial if the singular locus has codimension at least \(4\). Therefore, is enough to estimate the codimension of the set of hypersurfaces with singular locus of codimension at most \(3,\) and this is what the author actually does. This last estimate in its turn is done by breaking it in several small steps, each one analyzes the set of polynomials with singular locus in a linear space, then with singular locus on a hypersurface, and so on. Among the techniques used on the paper are a clever dimension count and techniques developed by the author in previous papers. In fact, the author produces several bounds, but in the case \(d\geq 4, N\geq 7\) they are significantly simpler.
