Let \(M^p(\mathbb{R}^d)\), \(1\leq p \leq \infty\), denote the modulation space. The authors characterize the linear continuous operators between the following spaces: \(M^1(\mathbb{R}^d) \to M^p(\mathbb{R}^d)\), for a fixed \(1\leq p \leq \infty\), \(M^p(\mathbb{R}^d) \to M^\infty(\mathbb{R}^d)\), for a fixed \(1\leq p \leq \infty\), \(M^p(\mathbb{R}^d) \to M^p(\mathbb{R}^d)\), for all \(1\leq p \leq \infty\). The characterizations are given by the membership of the corresponding distributional kernels in appropriate mixed modulation spaces. The proof is based on a discretization of the initial problem by means of Gabor frames.
