The authors consider a viscous steady isothermal flow of a compressible fluid in a two-dimensional exterior domain. The boundary conditions are equal to zero, and the velocity tends to a nonzero constant vector at infinity. This problem corresponds to flow past an obstacle. The authors analyse a linearized problem for deviations of velocity and density from their values at infinity, decompose the velocity field into its compressible and incompressible parts, and finally prove existence and uniqueness theorem under the assumption that the external data are sufficiently small.
