    In continuation of the previous article [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 33, No. 3, 583-620 (1993; see the preceding review)], this paper is devoted to give necessary conditions for the \(L^ 2\) well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for Schrödinger type equations \[ D_ tu + H_ 2 (t,x,D_ x)u + H_ 1 (t,x,D_ x) u = f(t,x) \quad \text{ in } \quad [s,T] \times \mathbb{R}^ n_ x,\;u(s,x) = u_ 0(x), \] where \(H_ 2\) and \(H_ 1\) are pseudodifferential operators in suitable classes (containing typically \(h_ 2 (t,x,\xi) = | \xi |^ 2\) and \(h_ 1 (t,x,\xi) = \sum^ n_{j = 1} b^ j(x) \xi_ j + c(x)\), with \(b^ j\) and \(c\) \(C^ \infty\) bounded). The necessary condition is related to the behavior of the imaginary part of the mean value of the subprincipal symbol \(h_ 1\) along the bicharacteristics of \(h_ 2\).
