The papers under review (in what follows referred to as [VI]-[VIII]) are a continuation of the authors' earlier work on the socalled standard monomial theory for a semi-simple algebraic group G [Part I: C. P. Ramanujam.-A tribute. Collect. Publ. of C. P. Ramanujam and Pap. in his memory, Tata Inst. fundam. Res., Stud. Math. 8, 207-239 (1978) by \textit{C. S. Seshadri}; part II: Proc. Indian Acad. Sci., Sect. A 87, No.2, 1-54 (1978) by \textit{V. Lakshmibai} and \textit{C. S. Seshadri}, part III: ibid., Sect. A, Part III 88, No.2, 93-177 (1979) by \textit{V. Lakshmibai, C. Musili} and \textit{C. S. Seshadri}; part IV: ibid., Sect. A, Part III 88, No.4, 279-362 (1979), by the same three authors, see Zbl 0447.14010- 14013]. See also the review of part V in the preceding review (Zbl 0618.14026) In [VI] an explicit way of writing down such a basis is given when G is a classical group. An advantage of this construction is that it can be used to compare the singular loci of the Schubert varieties in G/P. This is done in [VII] for the symplectic groups and for the groups \(SO(2n+1)\) in [VIII]. It is pointed out that the results are fine improvements over the corresponding previous results by \textit{V. Lakshmibai} and \textit{C. S. Seshadri}, Bull. Am. Math. Soc., New Ser. 11, 363-366 (1984; Zbl 0549.14016)]. Moreover, scheme-theoretic relations are obtained between the Schubert varieties for these groups and the corresponding ones for the special linear groups.
