In [Comment. Math. Helv. 79, 160--182 (2004; Zbl 1053.55010)], the author introduced the concept of Auslander-Reiten quivers and triangles into algebraic topology. Let \(\mathbf{D}^c(C^\ast(X,\mathbf{k}))\) be the subcategory of compact (small) objects in the derived category \(\mathbf{D}(C^\ast(X,\mathbf{k}))\) of the cochain algebra \(C^\ast(X,\mathbf{k})\) of a simply connected space \(X\) with the field \(\mathbf{k}\) of characteristic zero. The author proved that Auslander-Reiten triangles exist in \(\mathbf{D}^c(C^\ast(X,\mathbf{k}))\) if and only if \(X\) has Poincaré duality over \(\mathbf{k}\). In particular, he established that the Auslander-Reiten quiver of \(\mathbf{D}^c(C^\ast(\mathbb{S}^d,\mathbf{k}))\) has \(d-1\) components, each isomorphic to \(\mathbb{Z}A_\infty\). In the paper under review the author shows that this result for the \(d\)-dimensional sphere \(\mathbb{S}^d\) was not accidential. He proves that each component of \(\mathbf{D}^c(C^\ast(X,\mathbf{k}))\) is isomorphic to \(\mathbb{Z}A_\infty\) provided that \(X\) has Poincaré duality of dimension \(\geq 2\). This topological result follows from a purely algebraic one. By applying the minimal Sullivan model of \(C^\ast(X,\mathbf{k})\), the author shows that \(\text{Tor}^{C^\ast(X,\mathbf{k})}(\mathbf{k},\mathbf{k})=\infty\), so \(\mathbf{k}\) cannot be finitely built from \(C^\ast(X,\mathbf{k})\).
