\textit{C. Faber} [Aspects Math. E33, 109--129 (1999; Zbl 0978.14029)] conjectured the Gorenstein nature of the tautological ring of the moduli space of genus \(g\) curves. In this paper, the authors give a new proof for Faber's intersection number conjecture using double ramification cycles. The main advantage of the use of DR-cycles is that the fundamental class of the moduli space of curves of genus \(g\), \(\mathcal{M}_g\), can be represented by a double ramification class. Any integral of \(psi\)-classes over the fundamental class can be expressed in terms of integrals over DR-cycles. The authors give a combinatorial algorithm to describe the classes appearing in Faber's intersection number conjecture and, along with it, a new proof.
