The authors introduce new topologies (such as the Fermat and \(w\)-topology) on spaces of Colombeau generalized numbers, which are derived from the theory of Fermat reals. The sharp topologies are analysed in terms of the natural extension of the absolute value, which is in close analogy to classical (Euclidean or locally convex) topologies, preserving a number of classical notions. In Section 3, the Fermat-Reyes theorem is proved which shows that the behaviour of Colombeau generalized functions can be considered (formally) sufficiently similar to that of ordinary smooth functions. Moreover, the Fermat-Reyes theorem is believed to be the key instrument to develop a differential calculus for this type of generalized functions.
