The present author, \textit{H. W. Engl} and \textit{K. Kunisch}, in a recent paper [Optimal a posteriori parameter choice for Tikhonov regularization for solving nonlinear ill-posed problems, SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 30, No. 6, 1796-1838 (1993)] developed an a posteriori parameter choice strategy for the study of nonlinear ill-posed problems in Hilbert spaces, using the Tikhonov regularization method. The aim of the present paper is to show that the convergence rate \(o(\delta/\sqrt{\alpha})\) holds, under weaker conditions than those of the above quoted paper, where \(\alpha\) is the regularization parameter and \(\delta\) the noise level of data. Numerical examples for a boundary value problem are given.
