A Poisson algebra \(A\) over the ground ring \(K\) (here assumed to be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero) is an associative \(K\) algebra with a Lie bracket such that \([ab,c]=[a,c]b+a[b,c]\) \(\forall a,b,c\in A\). The author is concerned here with finite-dimensional Poisson algebras. If \(A\) is an associative nilpotent finite-dimensional Poisson algebra such that as a Lie algebra \(A\) is the direct sum of a simple ideal \(S\) and the Lie center \(R\) of \(A\) then the author shows that (associatively) \(S\cdot R=R\cdot S=0\), so \(R\) is a Poisson ideal and there is \(z\in R\) with \(A\cdot z=z\cdot A=0\) and \(Kz\) is the Lie center of \(S\oplus Kz\). If \(A\) is an associative semi-simple finite dimensional Poisson algebra then the author shows that \(A\) is a direct product of Poisson algebras \(A_i\), each an associative simple summand of \(A\) and on each summand the Lie bracket is a scalar multiple of the associative commutator. The author also obtains some results for Poisson algebras which are reductive as Lie algebras.
