Let \((A,\Delta)\) be an algebraic quantum group over a field \(k\). A right Galois object for \((A,\Delta)\) is a nondegenerate algebra \(X\) equipped with a right Galois \(A\)-coaction \(\alpha\), such that the subalgebra of coinvariants is \(k\). It is proved that there are two distinguished functionals \(\phi_X\) and \(\psi_X\) on \(X\), related by a modular element. If \(\omega=\phi_X\) or \(\omega=\psi_x\), it is shown that there exists an algebra automorphism \(\sigma_\omega\) of \(X\) such that \(\omega(y\sigma_\omega(x))=\omega(xy)\) for any \(x,y\in X\). A certain automorphism of \(X\) is constructed, playing the role of the antipode squared. A new algebraic quantum group \((C,\Delta_C)\) is constructed from \(X\), such that \((C,\Delta_C)\) has a left coaction on \(X\), commuting with \(\alpha\), and making \(X\) a left Galois object over \((C,\Delta_C)\). Moreover, \(A\), \(X\) and \(C\) can be grouped together inside a bigger structure which is a kind of algebraic quantum groupoid. The results are illustrated by a concrete example.
