The author gives a new proof of a dilation theorem of \textit{W. Benz} [ibid. 43, No. 2/3, 177-182 (1992; Zbl 0756.39014)] concerning the form of dilations in normed linear spaces. The paper contains some interesting propositions on solutions of the Pexider functional equation and on a Hamel basis.
