The authors present some basic definitions and results concerning the quasitangent directional differentiability of the solutions of systems of ordinary differential equations (with a Carathéodory-Lipschitz right-hand side) with respect to the starting points. The main result characterizes certain derived cones to the reachable sets of nonsmooth control systems in terms of the so called quasitangent variational equations that generalize the classical variational equation in the theory of O.D.E.
